Elm Class

Welcome to Elm Class.

Children in Elm Class are all in Year Three or Year Four.

Our teacher is Mrs Whitfield and she is assisted by Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Moon.

We do guided reading, English and maths in the morning. This term we are looking forward to improving our grammar with the Active English program. We will also be continuing with IPEELL. Our first memorable experience will be listening to a poet, Roger McGough reading his wonderful poem, The Sound Collector. We will be collecting sounds ready to create our own poems!

In maths, amongst other things, we will be making sure that we learn our tables. Year Three will need to know their 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 8x, and 10x tables. Year Four need to know all their tables by the end of the year!

For our topics, we are now following the Cornerstones curriculum.  This term we are following following 'Playlist' which is based around music. Please take every opportunity to share different types of music with your child. During the term they will be using jazz music to create pictures in the style of Kandinsky. They will also be 'travelling' around the world learning unusual types of singing. These will include Inuit throat singing, yodelling and scat.

These musical activities blend well with our science for this term which is based around sound.

Please make sure that your child has their outdoor P.E. kit in school. They will be doing netball with Mrs Smith and later on dance, including the Haka. They are also very fortunate to have a cricket coach in again this term.

In R.E. they will be discussing Christian belief and lifestyle with Mrs Smith. Elm now have a Reflection Corner where children can be quiet and reflect. They have thought about the kind deeds of others to create a class friendship tree.
