Elm Class

Welcome to Elm Class and the summer term.

Children in Elm Class are all in Year Three or Year Four.

Our teacher is Mrs Whitfield and she is assisted by Mrs Atkinson, Mrs Holmes and Mrs Moon.

We do guided reading, maths and English in the morning. This term we are  continuing to improve our grammar with the Active English program. We will also be continuing with IPEELL. Our first memorable experience will be performing poetry in a group.

In maths, amongst other things, we will be making sure that we learn our tables off by heart. Year Three will need to know their 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 8x, and 10x tables. Year Four need to know all their tables by the end of the year! We're doing really well but please make sure that you practice at home.

For our topics, we are  following the Cornerstones curriculum.  This term we are following following 'Urban Pioneers'. We will learn about those who created the urban landscape such as Norman Foster. We will also be studying graffiti and learning about Banksy.

Our science for this term  is based around shadows.

Please make sure that your child has their outdoor P.E. kit in school. They will be doing outdoor activities with Mr Wright on Wednesdays. Elm will also be swimming every Monday this term.

In our history sessions we will be learning about local history and in geography we will be using geographical skills and mapwork. Our art will be based around graffiti and silhouettes.

In R.E. the children will be discussing Hinduism. Elm have a Reflection Corner where children can be quiet and reflect. They are continuing to think about the kind deeds of others to create a class friendship tree and have created a friendship wreath using their handprints.
