Elm Class

Welcome to Elm Class.

Children in Elm Class are all in Year Three or Year Four.

Our teacher is Mrs Whitfield and she is assisted by Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Moon.

We do guided reading, English and maths in the morning. This term we are looking forward to continuing to improve our grammar with the Active English program. We will also be continuing with IPEELL. Our first memorable experience will be making an Anglo Saxon boat and seeing if it floats. This won't be life size!

In maths, amongst other things, we will be making sure that we learn our tables. Year Three will need to know their 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 8x, and 10x tables. Year Four need to know all their tables by the end of the year! Please make sure that you practice at home.

For our topics, we are now following the Cornerstones curriculum.  This term we are following following 'Traders and Raiders' which is all about the Anglo Saxons. This will lead our IPEELL English when we will be studying myths and legends. We will particularly be concentrating on stories about King Arthur. Art and Design Technology will also concentrate on Anglo Saxon techniques.

Our science for this term  is based around electricity.

Please make sure that your child has their outdoor P.E. kit in school. They will be doing games with Mr Wright on Wednesdays and swimming on Mondays.

In R.E. the children will be discussing what made people want to follow Jesus with Mrs Smith. Elm  have a Reflection Corner where children can be quiet and reflect. They have thought about the kind deeds of others to create a class friendship tree and have created a friendship wreath using their handprints.
