Welcome to Term 1 2017 - 18
Welcome to Term 1 in Oak, where children grow in confidence and experience, as they work hard to show all their fabulous learning. Becoming the oldest children in school brings certain responsibilities and privileges, which Year 5 & 6 particularly enjoy. We focus on setting a good example to younger children in our behaviour and attitude, demonstrating the core values of our Circle of Belief, along with enthusiasm and commitment.
Our teachers are Mrs Amey and Mrs Smith, with support from Mrs Moon and Mr Wright.
In Maths we will be concentrating on Number Facts and Calculating, as we lay down further foundations for problem solving and reasoning.
In English we will continue to use IPEELL to help us with our writing, linking this with our topic work in other subjects. With our new 'Active English' programme, we will be working hard to master grammar, punctuation and spelling rules.
Our Foundation Curriculum is based around the Pharoahs of Egypt. Cruising along the Nile, we will enter a world of mysteries and curses, mummies and kings. We will explore Egypt and its fascinating culture, as we find out about life on the river's fertile banks and further our knowledge of the water cycle.
Take a look at the Cornerstones curriculum overview in the documents section.
This term we will be doing PE on Mondays and Wednesdays, but please make sure PE kits are in school every day for any extra sessions we might have. We will be swimming in Terms 2,4 & 6 this year.
