EYFS
This term we’re exploring our project Marvellous Me, helping the children settle into school life and learn all about themselves. We’ll be talking about our families, what makes us special, and the friends we have in class. The children will enjoy activities such as self‑portraits, superhero play, acting out familiar stories, and discovering the people who help us in our community.
As autumn arrives, we’ll head outdoors to spot seasonal changes, collect natural materials, and learn about woodland animals. The children will create autumn art, explore textures, and take part in sensory activities linked to leaves, conkers and pumpkins.
Throughout the term we’ll share lots of stories, sing rhymes, and encourage the children to talk, listen and take turns. Early phonics begins through Read Write Inc., and in maths we’ll explore early number skills through practical, hands‑on activities.
The children will also continue developing independence with routines, practise being kind friends, and learn how to keep themselves safe and healthy as they settle into life in Willow Class.
RE ‘Which people, stories and events are special to me?’ - exploring belonging and special events by thinking about the people, groups and celebrations that matter in their own lives. Learning how Christians and Hindus celebrate Christmas and Diwali, and retell the Nativity and Rama and Sita stories through talk, art and drama.
PE ‘Introduction to PE’ - safely using space, stopping safely, using and sharing equipment and working individually, with a partner and group. Developing fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping and skipping. Children will also play simple games and begin to understand and use rules.

Points to note
PE:
We have our PE lessons on Mondays and Fridays this term and your child is required to wear their PE kit to school. You may wish to provide your child with some warmer PE clothing as some of the PE lessons will be outside. If your child has pierced ears please ensure they are taped before coming into school.
Water:
We ask that your child brings in their water bottle each day with fresh water in it. Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day, and we feel that it is important for them to have their own water bottle in school at all times. Clear water bottles allow us to monitor water intake easier. Please make sure that the bottles are clearly named and only contain water. A separate juice drink can be provided for lunch.
Book bag:
Your child needs to bring their book bag to school each day. It is important not only for reading books and other items which go home, but also for any correspondence that needs to go to parents. Please check bookbags regularly for letters and ensure that any learning your child has completed and brought home is taken out. We recommend that water bottles are not transported in bookbags as books may become damaged if they leak.
Reading:
Reading is a very important part of the curriculum and integral in a child's life.
Reading books are first read over several days within Read Write Inc. phonics sessions, and once completed are then sent home to be read again. Once a book is completed at home please sign the reading record so a new book can be given.
The children also have a free choice 'Choosing Book'. These may be too tricky for them to read themselves but are to be shared at home to support developing a love of reading. These can be changed as often as they like and you will see they have a sticker on the front stating that it is their 'Choosing Book'.
We ask that the reading books and records are kept in bookbags and brought into school daily in case reading books need changing.
Home Learning:
We love to share any learning from home and this is displayed in the classroom for us all to celebrate. The EYFS children can also add their 'Wow' moments to Tapestry to celebrate their learning at home - no matter how big or small!
We love being proud of ourselves and our friends.
Please do not hesitate to come and speak with me if you have any questions.
Many thanks for your support,
Miss White
